This session aims to address the topics of entrepreneurship, innovation and business models, following a holistic view of enterprise systems. Additionally, it aims to introduce modern tools for planning and design of business models for entrepreneurs. The disclaimer has three parts. First, it is introduced the problem of entrepreneurship focusing on the individual and following a behavioral lens. Secondly, it presents the state of the art of the topic on innovation strategies, making use of an approach of enterprise cooperation and coopetition. Thirdly, the business models for entrepreneurs are addressed, by making use of the Canvas model. The methodology is the expository kind, making use of audiovisual resources, working teams and presentation of a pitch by students, with a proposal of value added for a start-up.

João Leitão is Assistant Professor at the University of Beira Interior and invited as a Coordinator Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre, lecturing entrepreneurship, international finance, macroeconomics and microeconomics for undergraduate and graduate economics, engineering and management students since October 1, 1999. He is associate researcher of the CEG-IST, University of Lisbon. He is a co-inventor of three patents (in process) and co-author of fourteen books on benchmarking, clusters, cooperation networks, entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education, firm growth, innovation, competitiveness and public administration. He won the Best Paper Award of the Interdisciplinary European Conference in Entrepreneurial Research - IECER 2012. His work has been published in Research Policy, Industrial and Corporate Change, Service Industries Journal, Journal of Evolutionary Economics, Innovation: Management, Policy & Practice, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Venturing, International Journal of Business Excellence, International Journal of Technology Transfer and Commercialization and Revista Portuguesa de Estudos Regionais. His research interests include: entrepreneurship; innovation; market dynamics; and public policy.
